They would use them to encase meat and other things like we do today for sausage. And they would also dry the intestine to eat similar to jerky.

There are approximately 150. As I stated I did not find a clear answer on this, but I did find someone's class they wrote on the bones, so I physically counted all of them in the diagram. HOWEVER, in some cases the may have 6 or 7 of this bone or 15-18 of that bone, so I think that is why there is no definitive answer. If someone can find one, please send me the link. I have looked for three days.

Native Americans believed that the buffalo gave themselves to them for food so they could live. They also believed that the buffalo was closer to God/Heavens than even humans, so they needed a way to reconcile killing the buffalo for food. That is why they have the ceremony to honor the buffalo for the sacrifices it made to keep them alive.
