  1. Before we proceed much further we need to hear from Anne or Chris after Monday’s meeting.
  2. Kanren can connect to up to 20 schools within the state of Kansas. Indika would like to coordinate with other MCUs in other states – OK, ND, MO. Trouble-shooting becomes easier.
  3. There would be a videoconferencing Test – this requires a list of schools, test mcu’s, list of technical contacts from each state network and from each participating school. Please forward technical contact info to the gp-segp@greatplains.net list.
  4. Michael Ruhrdanz from UNL (Michael Ruhrdanz [mruhrdan @ unlnotes.unl.edu]) is interested in streaming at UNL. Email is for Indika to contact for the test.
  5. Bill Giddings will check on MOREnet streaming the event.
  6. Greg will check on storage for archiving the streams.
  7. Concept of inviting city planners invited to community session?
  8. Riverbluff cave archive footage: http://www.more.net/services/videostreaming/events.html
  9. Next phone meeting is 9 AM next Friday (2/8/2008).

January 25, 2008

For emergency preparedness week, Ann Lundy discussed preparations for interactive videoconferences from Greensburg, Kansas. One hour programs, titled “Lessons from Greensburg, Kansas” are tentatively scheduled for March 11 at 8:45 AM (elementary school focus), 10 AM (middle & high school focus), and 1 PM (second program for middle & high school). In the evening, a program for community members is tentatively planned for 7 PM.

Discussion centered on 1) finding classrooms in other states to take part, 2) possibilities for video-streaming, 3) possibilities for additional segments on March 10, 11, or 12 from other states on other aspects of disaster preparedness, storm prediction, etc.

Next call is on Friday, Feb. 1, at 11AM. Greg will contact Henry Neeman regarding the CAPS program at OU and, specifically, Dr. Kloesel, to whom Ann has spoken. All will find out about classrooms in their states to tie into the planned videoconferences--Kim mentioned that we might use a second bridge in North Dakota. Chris and Randy will involve the network management folks. Chris has a press release as an action item.
