Discussion re Survey: Some people didn't understand anything about CI, do we need an opt out option for the survey? Gordon sent it to all the faculty members because they'd speak on behalf of students. Out of 15k people, only 2 mentioned wanting to opt out.
First person from MU to use Bitnet was an English faculty. So yes, people you'd never think would respond should get the survey.
Should postdoc/grad students be included in the future?
Del: hard to come up with a list for grad students.
Rick: chain letter approach might work just as well.
Del: a VP wanted to see the survey before passing it along to her staff.
We need to start looking at how to do round 2 of the survey. Did people add comments or just answer the questions?
What do we focus on? A:There are generally some free form responses.
Was the survey circulated in NE? SD is on spring break now. Anyone have a problem with extending it for a week? No, it is ok.
Guy will forward the survey on to some people who are not in GPN. His regional effort is based in TX. TX split between HEPCAT and LEARN as far as computing focus.
Greg can send out another survey for Guy to use. Guy will ask around and see if such a thing would be well received.
What are our goals? SURAgrid and others are up and going.
Myron: found a way to encourage inter-campus cooperation. Opportunities are often missed because people do not know about anything off of their own campus. GPN is well understood by networkers and those that pay the bills, but not well known by the researchers.
What's the next step after the survey? Get a summary of information to everyone. Need the info out so it can be discussed by March 22 or 29. We'll have time to design another survey by the I2 meeting. Or at least have the first survey completed and analyzed by then.
Rick will try chain letter approach.
Next meeting March 15.
