Here are the notes from Kent Christensen:
Here are the notes for the GPN Technical Committee Conference Call. As always this is my interpretation of the meeting, if you have any questions, concerns, corrections, or additions please let me know.
Next Conference Call will be June 16 at 1:00 PM CDT
Bill mentioned the Planning Sub-Committee meeting schedule:
- June 1, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Embassy Suites KC
- June 2, 9:00 or 10:00 AM to Noon
Bill also mention that Darryl Newcombe will be available to meet with individual connectors about making BGP more efficient and helping with peering solutions.
1. 2010 Planning Process Update The planning subcommittee reported the following. For planning purposes we looked at a one box solution with 28 Ten Gig ports and 40 one Gig ports. Estimated costs for a one box solution, just hardware no maintenance costs. Cisco $508,000 Brocade $242,665 Juniper $245,000 *
- Jeff B. estimated for Juniper. Cisco and Brocade were quick quotes from
the vendors. We also looked at mirroring services across the two cisco boxes we currently have, but have to research this more to see if it is possible. The sub committee discussed I2CPS and whether this service would be split over both I2 connections or just on one I2 connection. More discussion is needed on this.
WiscNet has a 10G connection from the GPN switch to Level3 for Internet transit. It is currently being shared by WiscNet, Iowa State, and University of Minnesota. The cost is currently $7.50/Mb. Other GPN members interested in this sharing arrangement can contact Jeff Bartig at WiscNet to work out the details.
2. Status of Service Requests
- GpENI request to use QinQ to Cienna DCN - Cancelled due to the
planned removal of the Cienna DCN equipment by I2
- GPN/CIC Peering - meeting date TBD Hopefully, this meeting
will be this week or next week.
3. New Service Requests
- Planned Maintenance at the Level3 Facilities - wiring clean up in
the June 1 - 4 time frame (This will probably happen Tuesday night - Wednesday morning.)
- Scheduled disconnect of Transit Rail service also in the June 1 -
4 time frame (This will probably happen Tuesday night - Wednesday morning.)
4. Action Items Update
- NOC Request Template - PJ put together a draft NOC request
template, no one had any suggestions or additions to it.
Action Items from this meeting:
Bill will get in touch with Darryl Newcombe to see what information he would like before he meets with individual connectors about BGP and Peering.
P. J. will send out maintenance notices about the changes on the evening of June 1 and the morning of June 2.
Thanks, Kent
