September 12, 2008

Note Name Change and Change of Mailing List for the future.

  1. Discussion of the Group Name
    • Greg proposed renaming this group to Collaborative Cyberinfrastructure and subsume grid and shibboleth initiatives under it. Retain the same mailing list.
    • Bill Ashmore suggested we consider an alternative change to “Collaboration and Cyberinfrastructure”.
    • Name will be changed to “Collaborative Cyberinfrastructure”.
    • Amy Apon will create a new mailing list, requesting which members of the current list would like to be on the new one.
  2. Discussion of the Cyberinfrastructure Brainstorming Summit (supported by both the GPN Executive Council and Research Advisory Board) re Dates/Place/Planning Committee.
    • Timing and commitments may get in the way.
      • Amy noted that she has state-wide responsibilities now.
    • Amy suggested coming up with a list of recommendations for the region.
    • There was a great deal of discussion regarding MU’s changed organizational structure for IT and Research. Gordon also mentioned that the new Provost asked about MU’s NLR connection.
      • Gordon will ask Gary Allen whether he can join our call in two weeks to discuss changes at MU.
    • Put out some dates and times to do this.
  3. Discussion of block of time at the October Oklahoma Supercomputing meeting.
    • Consider coming up with a preliminary list of recommendations for region.
    • Call-in option
    • Demonstration of virtual repository at MU

  4. Discussion of upcoming Shibboleth Training and perspectives on Shibboleth. (try http://osprey.rnet.missouri.edu and http://collaboration.greatplains.net/members)
    • Denis discussed the upcoming Shib training and that we can have a good training with the 10 registered participants.
    • Greg got the list of registrants in the meantime and they are from (3 from Office of Mediated Education, 1 from Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education/OneNet, 2 from UMKC, 2 from University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2 from University of South Dakota, 2 from Wichita State University)
    • Greg suggests trying out the two web sites above if you have a shibboleth ID. You can also get one from Duncan Cunningham (duncanc@ksu.edu).


May 2, 2008 : Tech/Admin Mtg

  1. Discussed putting together NSF mounted storage that will be available via GPN repository
  2. Duncan will send greg specs on
    • PCI Card for GPN server
    • SATAII 500GB Drives
  3. MU will take care of making storage available via repository once installed
  4. As people get GPN IDs, if they want storage then we send Gordon or Denis their info.
  5. Greg will learn from Duncan how to add people to GPN ldap.

April 25: Regular Meeting

  1. I2 Update
    • InCommon, COManage & Shibboleth
      • Greg will get InCommon form to Gordon.
      • Update: Ron Johnson has sponsored GPN to InCommon
    • Shibboleth CAMP: Denis Hancock attending
    • Federation Soup in June
      • Gordon, Greg (?)
      • Update: There is an announcement circulating
    • Cyberinfrastructure issues from other campuses
      • It’s people to help the researchers that are in need
  2. Postponed: Start of a needs assessment regarding computational science, grid computing and middleware:
    • Get input on what is being done at each school and what is needed.
    • What does your campus program need and how could you contribute or benefit from a gpn program?
    • What are the obstacles to where we think we each want to go?
  3. Duncan has configured and run a job on the GPN cluster at KSU.

March 28, 2008

  • Status of Arkansas storage.
    • Amy has two 8 core clusters that were received and will build a couple of clusters with storage.
    • Problems were encountered with dcache, originally, and looking for another alternative.
    • Gordon mentioned dSpace. Del mentioned that SDSU has brought up a test server on dSpace.
  • Update from UNL on OSG - David or Brian
    • Received email from David.
  • Update on Argonne involvement - Gordon, Dan, Rachana (Thanks for joining us Dan and Rachana!)
    • We had some discussion. We will have a follow-up call to begin discussing specifications -- ideas for some times, dates?
  • GPN Annual Meeting is scheduled for May 29-30 in KCMO. Any thoughts?
    • Opportunity for meeting in KCMO with Rachana Ananthakrishnan & Dan Fraser.
