People from minority serving institutions who are interested in CI in EpSCOR states. Tribal colleges, 2 year community colleges, etc.
Thoughts on proposal for draft of CI advisory document.
Question: are the Operational guidelines what is going to happen? It's a lot to accomplish in a year. Answer: some of it is happening now, and there is no official time line to get them done in a year.
Rick: the document is a starting point for a discussions. We don't know what some of these are going to cost. Funding is a big issue.
Do we want to go through item by item? Or what?
Overall feedback is good, as well as going over things section by section.
One rep per state, or one rep from each entity?
One of the more difficult tasks: raise more money for CI function. Another function of implementing could be done by general community members, not the CI Advisory committee.
How will the CI Committee will work differently than the rep council group? It will be mission oriented: to work through the tasks on the list. We need to work on the governance of the process.
What authority does the CI committee have over money? Organizationally, is there a separate CI budget? Maybe a budget for data storage. There should be a budget to cover commitments.
The plan needs to be finalized by October 1. Everyone needs to have their comments in by the middle of next week.
How long has the networking committee been working under its document? It got revised recently, so it's a good basis.
Updates:
Rick (KU): about to start KS priority networking update. Targeting the time between Christmas and New Year's for implementation. Still thinking about life sciences initiative and how to implement. Getting ready to go to KS EpSCOR meeting in Washington.
Del: Doing data center upgrades. We got a NSF grant to do so.
There will be a lot of electrical and HVAC work.
Neal: getting node up for GpENI project. Finally got the software downloaded. Hoping to get everything up and running by Christmas. Trying to get closer ties with DUESEL. He is interested in the CI initiative. How can we get DUESEL as part of GPN? Let's have a conference call between Dr. Matthews and other GPN members.
